Love Stories

Halle +Jacob

We met in the Spirit of the West Marching Band at Montana State University, where Jacob played tuba and Halle played cymbals. We didn’t know each other well at first, but we had a coffee shop date after a rehearsal and started to get to know each other better during and outside of band functions.

One of my hobbies is building off road vehicles and driving them up rocky trails in the mountains that would be inaccessible for most cars; and Halle likes these trips as well. We have an annual off-roading/camping trip up to an alpine lake in the Tobacco Root Mountains with some of our friends from college, and it was on that trip that I proposed. We camped right on the edge of the lake, and had a great time having drinks and painting around the campfire. I was the first one awake the next day, informed our friends as they got out of bed of what I was going to do, and got them ready to take some photos. We were packing up our camp and I asked Halle to come down from the roof tent and help clean dishes. We walked down to the lake and as Halle was scrubbing one of the dishes I got down on one knee and proposed. Halle tried to stand up on the rocks and ended up falling into the shallow part of the water and getting her sleeve all wet, but of course she still said yes. I had originally planned to propose elsewhere, but when we were packing for that trip, it occurred to me that we would be on the trip with some of our closest friends and we were camping at a place with more personal importance to us, so I pocketed the ring in case a good opportunity presented itself, and it turned out better than anything else I could have planned.

We cannot wait to have our ceremony next to the lake with the mountains in that background! We are most looking forward to our ceremony, the beautiful setting, and being surrounded by our friends and family.
